Cybertruck Light Shows
The Cybertruck is the best light show platform Tesla makes, and for a reason most write-ups miss. It is not only the light bar. It is that the Cybertruck is the one Tesla whose lights can actually be half on.
.json or .txt file. It does not. It is a .fseq, a binary sequence format, paired with an audio file of the same name. If you follow the other instructions your truck will simply never see the show.What is actually different about a Cybertruck
The light bar. One continuous full-width instrument across the front, where every other Tesla has two separate headlight clusters and a gap. Sweeps travel. Builds land across the whole face of the truck. It is the difference between a chord and two notes.
And brightness is real.This is the part almost nobody writes about. On a Model 3, Y, S or X, most light channels are effectively switches: send a half-brightness value and the car decides on or off around the halfway mark, or steps through a small set of fixed fade commands. On the Cybertruck, per Tesla's own specification, the brightness value corresponds to actual brightness.
Which means genuine fades, swells and dips exist on the Cybertruck and are approximations everywhere else. A slow bloom across the light bar under a held note is a Cybertruck-only move.
What it can move
Beyond the lights, a show can drive the mirrors, the windows, the charge port and the liftgate. No falcon doors, those are a Model X party trick. Closures are the punctuation rather than the sentence: shows worth watching stagger them and respect the time they physically take to travel, instead of slamming everything on the same beat.
Do not borrow a sedan's show
Every Tesla uses the same 48 channels and the same file format, so a Model 3 show will load and play on a Cybertruck. It will also look wrong. The hardware behindeach channel is different: the channel that drives a sedan's fog light is doing something else entirely on a truck with a light bar where the headlights should be. The format matches, the choreography does not.
Every show in the library is exported per model, so a Cybertruck export is choreographed for the Cybertruck's channels rather than adapted from a sedan.
Getting one playing
- Pick a show and export the
.fseqbuilt for the Cybertruck. - Put your own copy of the song beside it with the same filename.
- Both into a top-level folder named exactly
LightShowon a drive formatted exFAT. - Plug in, then Toybox → Light Show.
If the popup reads Light Show rather than Custom Light Show, the truck did not accept the drive, and it is a format, folder or filename problem rather than anything to do with the show. The USB drive guide has the full checklist. In Chrome or Edge the builder can write the drive for you instead.
Common questions
Can a Cybertruck play custom light shows?
Yes. The Cybertruck supports custom light shows the same way other Teslas do. You put a .fseq file and a matching audio file in a folder called LightShow on a USB drive, then start it from Toybox.
What file format is a Cybertruck light show?
A .fseq file, paired with a .mp3 or .wav of the same name. Some guides claim shows export as .json or .txt files. That is wrong. FSEQ is a binary sequence format from the xLights world, and it is the only sequence format the car will read.
Can I use a Model 3 or Model Y light show on a Cybertruck?
It will play, but it will look wrong. Every model uses 48 channels, but the hardware behind each channel differs, so a sequence choreographed around a sedan’s headlights fires the wrong parts of the truck at the wrong moments. Use a show built for the Cybertruck.
