Light Show Library/Christmas Tesla Light Shows/Linus and Lucy

Linus and Lucy · Tesla Light Show

by Vince Guaraldi Trio

Vince Guaraldi's piano theme for the Peanuts specials, first released in 1964 and tied to December ever since A Charlie Brown Christmas. That rolling left hand never stops, and neither does the show: the tail lights re-fire about one and a half times a second with the front turn signals close behind, and the fullest stretch comes in the middle. It sits in the darker half of the catalog, three minutes four. No words to learn, so it works for every age, and somebody will do the dance with their head tilted back.

Works on your phone or tablet. Two things to know first. You bring your own copy of the song, because we make the lights and never the music. And the final step, copying the files onto a USB stick, needs a computer: a phone or tablet cannot write one. Everything before that happens right here, and we email you the download link plus the setup steps so it is waiting when you sit down.

How this one is choreographed

This is one of the fastest shows in the library: the lights re-fire about 1.1 times a second and rarely sit still. The peak is in the middle third, where roughly 35% of the car is lit against 28% at the top, then it eases back for the finish. If you are filming, the fullest ten seconds start at 1:19, when about 43% of the car is lit at once. Most of the work falls on the tail lights, re-firing about 1.6 times a second, with the front turn signals answering back at 1.4. About 57% of the re-firing happens at the rear, so the better view is from behind the car. The quietest part of the car is the inner main beams, at about 0.8 re-fires a second. It runs 3:04 and averages 67 of 255 across the light channels, a darker show that spends most of its time well below full, so the hits carry further. About 19% of the light values are partial, toward the top of the range for this catalog, so the show leans on swells and dimming as much as on hits. It never goes completely dark for long: the longest gap is 0.6 of a second, just before the close.

Measured from the exported light sequence for this show, not estimated from the song.

Get it for your Tesla

How to play it on your car

  1. Open the show above and add it to your library (remix it in the builder first if you want).
  2. Add your own copy of the song: an MP3/WAV you own. We distribute only the light pattern, never audio.
  3. Export the .fseq built for your model, then place your song next to it (or let the one-click USB writer do both).
  4. Put both files in a LightShow folder on a USB drive. Or skip the manual steps: in Chrome/Edge, click 🔌 Write it to my USB drive for me right after exporting and we do it all, verified byte-for-byte. Then plug in and start it from Toybox → Light Show. Full walkthrough in the setup guide.

Car says Light Show instead of Custom Light Show, or the drive is not detected at all? That is the USB format, the folder name, or filenames that do not match. If it plays but drifts out of time, that is the audio sample rate. Fix both here.

Setting up for Christmas? The Christmas guide walks through the whole evening, from picking the show to parking the car so the neighbours can actually see it. Read the Christmas guide.

Questions

Is this a good show to run for a crowd?
It is one of the more intense shows, at about 1.1 light changes a second, driven mostly through the tail lights. It plays best after dark with room around the car. The middle is the payoff, so it is worth staying for the whole thing.
Is the music included?
No, this is a BYOM show. You add your own legally-owned copy of the song; we provide the synchronized light pattern.
Is it safe for the car?
Every export passes safety validation: staggered door movements with travel time respected, limited flash rates, and per-model rules enforced.
Can I change how it looks?
Yes, every show is remixable in the builder: edit the timeline, switch models, or regenerate with a different vibe.
