Grieg wrote it for Peer Gynt in 1875: a creeping theme that repeats faster and louder until it tips over into chaos. The show follows that crescendo almost literally. It starts nearly dark, the darkest show in the catalog on average, and genuinely builds, the final third more than twice the first, led by the inner main beams with the brake light answering. Two minutes forty-two. A Halloween pick for anyone who prefers slow dread to jump scares, best started with every other light in the street off.
How this one is choreographed
The choreography is deliberately unhurried: the lights re-fire about 0.4 times a second, so cues land as separate moments rather than a blur. It builds. The car runs about 14% of its lights through the opening third and finishes near 30%, so the biggest picture is the one you end on. Most of the work falls on the inner main beams, re-firing about 0.8 times a second, with the brake light answering back at 0.6. It runs 2:42 and averages 35 of 255 across the light channels, a darker show that spends most of its time well below full, so the hits carry further. About 23% of the light values are partial, toward the top of the range for this catalog, so the show leans on swells and dimming as much as on hits.
